Ohrwurmnachrichten

Hurricane Sandy ist auf zwei Levels über die Ostküste hereingebrochen: Zum einen als der Superstorm, der uns hier in DC zum Glück weitgehend in Ruhe gelassen hat. Zum anderen als Schwall an Nachrichten, rund um die Uhr, der uns stündliche Updates über den Wasserstand in Atlantic City und die Wellenhöhe in Pleasure Point Beach beschert. (Und - don't get me wrong: ich finde, dass die Medien jedenfalls die Aufgabe haben, in einer derartigen Situation kontinuierlich zu berichten. Allerdings in einer Art und Weise, die die Betroffenen dazu bringt, ihre Häuser rechtzeitig zu verlassen - und nicht den Rest der sensationsgeilen Nation zu unterhalten.)

Unterbrochen wurde diese Dauerberichterstattung natürlich durch Werbung, in zwei Ausprägungen: einerseits Werbung für Haushaltsversicherungen, Notfallgeneratoren und batteriebetriebene Lampen (wo man die noch herkriegen soll?) und durch Wahlwerbung. Selbst im Hotel eingesperrt, und das im battleground state Virginia, kriegen wir natürlich die volle Dosis davon ab. Einiges ist mir neu, zum Beispiel dieser Herr hier:



Alle 30 Sekunden zu hören "I am Barack Obama/ Mitt Romney and I approve this message." nervt auf die Dauer schon ziemlich. Aber es wirkt. Eine hundertfach gestreute Botschaft bleibt irgendwann hängen. Der Beweis tritt am selben Abend ein: In der Hotelbar, die voll ist von Hurrican-gestrandeten Reisenden, setzt sich eine Frau aus New Hampshire zu uns. Innerhalb weniger Minuten sind wir bei talking politics. Wer ihrer Meinung nach New Hampshire gewinnen wird, wollen wir wissen. "I hope Mitt Romney will", seufzt sie. Aber wieso? "I did vote for President Obama last time. But look at me now. Am I better off than I was four years ago?"

Nightmare on K Street

Washington, D.C. ist eine Blase. Das weiß man. Aber so richtig klar wird einem das erst mitten drin, in einem der unzähligen aufwändig ausgestatteten Büros in der K Street, dem Mekka aller Lobbyisten. Unsere Gesprächspartnerin ist Maryscott Greenwood, eine Mittfünfzigerin mit dem vielsagenden Jobtitle "Senior Advisor". Man sieht ihr an, dass sie weiß, wie's läuft. Und so antwortet sie auch auf die Frage, was denn erfolgreiche Lobbying-Strategien seien: "Usually, you invite someone for lunch. If it's important, you go for dinner. And if it's really important, you get drunk."

Für die elected officials ist es längst unmöglich geworden, den Überblick zu behalten über alle Interessen, die sie womöglich vertreten sollen. Also sind es die staffers, die MitarbeiterInnen der Abgeordneten, die den Laden schupfen. Alles hungrige unter-30-Jährige ohne Schlafbedürfnis, wie man abschätzig feststellt.  Und so bewegt sich der Meinungsbildungsprozess irgendwo zwischen Speed Dating und Schilagerdisco. "If you don't get your message across within two or three minutes, you're out", erklärt uns der österreichische Botschafter Hans Peter Manz.

Das unangenehme Gefühl, dass hier alle ihr Limit schon auf eine ungesunde Art und Weise überschritten haben, hängt lange nach.

Öffentlichkeitsarbeit als Abenteuer - 24 Stunden am Piz Val Gronda

Was tut man, wenn einem etwas wirklich wichtig ist und man andere Menschen auf dieses wichtige Anliegen aufmerksam machen will? Richtig - man setzt eine außergewöhnliche Aktion.

Uns Grünen ist der Schutz der Tiroler Natur ein wirklich wichtiges Anliegen. Dass wir nicht mit der Entscheidung, das 28 Jahre lang umstrittene Seilbahnprojekt auf den Piz Val Gronda im Paznauntal nun doch zu genehmigen, d'accord gehen, dürfte bekannt sein. Wir wollen nicht, dass der geologisch und botanisch einzigartige Berg verbaut wird, und wir befürchten außerdem, dass dieser Bescheid Tür und Tor öffnet für weitere Erschließungen. Auch diese Argumente sind bekannt, genauso wie jene der ProjektbefürworterInnen.

Mit unserer Aktion "24 Stunden am Piz Val Gronda" (hier geht's zum Bericht von Gebi Mair) haben wir die Diskussion aber jetzt auf einen neuen Level gehoben. Wir haben gezeigt, dass wir, wie so oft von PolitikerInnen verlangt, vom Reden auch ins Tun kommen, haben uns vor Ort direkt informiert und auch das Gespräch mit der Bevölkerung gesucht.

Beim Aufstieg durchs Vesiltal

Gleichzeitig bringt eine solche Aktion aber auch noch ganz andere Aspekte: Respekt vor der Natur und dem eigenen Körper, denn der 15 kg-Rucksack mit Zelt und Verpflegung will erst einmal die 1500 Höhenmeter hinaufgetragen werden; berührende Begegnungen, wie jene mit zwei Menschen aus Samnaun (auf der Schweizer Seite des Ischgler Schigebietes), die über eine Stunde in der einfallenden Dämmerung im Vesiltal auf uns gewartet haben, um sich mit uns zu solidarisieren und uns eine Flasche Schnaps und eine Engadiner Nusstorte zu schenken; und nicht zuletzt ein schönes Gefühl der Gemeinschaft, wenn nach dem anstrengenden Zeltaufbau bei Dunkelheit und starkem Wind jemand eine mitgeschleppte Weinflasche aus dem Rucksack zieht, die natürlich brüderlich und schwesterlich geteilt wird.

Für erfolgreiche (politische) Kommunikation muss ein interessanter Inhalt auch ansprechend verpackt werden. Und der Gipfel ist eine ansprechende Verpackung wie diese Aktion, die nebenbei auch noch richtig viel Spaß macht. Ich freue mich jeden Tag über das tolle junge grüne Team, mit dem solche Dinge möglich sind!

Morgen kann man nicht grün wählen. Oder doch?

Natürlich würde ich in der morgigen Stichwahl lieber eine grüne Kandidatin wählen. Dafür hat es aber diesmal nicht gereicht - noch nicht. Weil so super finde ich es auch nicht, mich zwischen zwei bürgerlichen KandidatInnen entscheiden zu müssen.

Allerdings fällt mir die Entscheidung seit Donnerstag ein wenig leichter. Ich freue mich sehr, dass man morgen wenigstens grüne Inhalte mitwählen kann! "Für Innsbruck" und die Grünen haben sich auf fünf inhaltliche Eckpunkte geeinigt, die jedenfalls in der kommenden Regierung umgesetzt werden sollen. An diesem gelb-grünen Block - landläufig auch bekannt als "Schreckgespenst" - führt also kein Weg vorbei. Und natürlich wird die Umsetzung dieser Punkte wesentlich leichter, wenn FI als unser Kooperationspartner die Bürgermeisterin stellt.

 Deswegen wähle ich morgen Christine Oppitz-Plörer - und hoffe gleichzeitig, dass es das letzte Mal ist, dass keine grünen KandidatInnen zur Wahl stehen!

Zweierlei Maß beim Meldegesetz?

Christoph Platzgummer will in Innsbruck Bürgermeister werden (oder jedenfalls will irgendwer in der ÖVP das). Gemeldet ist er hauptwohnsitzlich bei seinen Eltern in Hötting. Wohnen tut er allerdings bekanntlich in Mils.
Jetzt ist das Meldegesetz ja ziemlich schwammig. Der Hauptwohnsitz ist laut Gesetz dort, wo der "Lebensmittelpunkt" ist. Das lässt natürlich alle möglichen Interpretationen zu, unter anderem vom Innsbrucker Meldeamt in der heutigen Presse:

„Platzgummer hat offensichtlich ein breites soziales Netz in der Landeshauptstadt – auch, wenn er dort nicht ständig übernachtet. Wir sehen keinen Grund, an seinen Angaben zu zweifeln.“

Besonders viele Dinge - außer der Wahlberechtigung - gibt es ja eh nicht,  wo der Hauptwohnsitz eine große Rolle spielt. Eine Rolle spielt er jedoch bei der Vergabe der Wohnbauförderung. Wohnbauförderung kann man nur für eine Wohnung oder ein Haus beziehen, in dem man seinen Hauptwohnsitz hat. Und das wird auch kontrolliert! Wie, das habe ich heute bei der Abteilung für Wohnbauförderung des Landes Tirol nachgefragt und folgende Antwort erhalten:

Bezug nehmend auf Ihre Anfrage wird Ihnen mitgeteilt, dass im Zuge der Fertigstellung des geförderten Objektes stichprobenweise die Bewohnung kontrolliert und der  Hauptwohnsitz über das zentrale Melderegister überprüft wird. Weiters darf kein weiterer Wohnsitz neben dem Hauptwohnsitz bestehen.

Wo besteht nun der Unterschied zwischen dem Hauptwohnsitz als Voraussetzung für eine Kandidatur und dem Hauptwohnsitz als Voraussetzung für den Bezug von Wohnbauförderung? Ich kenne Geschichten, da ist kontrolliert worden, ob die Leute Zahnbürsten, Unterhosen und einen "normalen" Kühlschrankinhalt haben, um ihren Wohnbauförderungsanspruch zu prüfen. Nach sozialen Netzen hat da niemand gefragt. Vielleicht hätten diese Menschen gleichzeitig für eine ÖVP-Liste kandidieren sollen, das macht offenbar alles einfacher.

Katholisch oder Alkoholisch?

"Das machen doch nur Alkoholiker", habe ich kürzlich als Reaktion darauf gehört, dass ich von Aschermittwoch bis Karsamstag keinen Alkohol trinke. Jetzt trinke ich zwar schon hin und wieder gern ein Glasl (zu viel), aber so weit ist es dann doch nicht. Und an die katholische Fastenzeit hänge ich mich ausschließlich deswegen an, weil es recht praktisch ist, einen klar definierten Zeitraum zu haben. (Jesus dürfte übrigens jeden Sonntag irgendwohin gefahren sein, um sich den Bauch vollzuschlagen, sonst geht sich das mit den 40 Tagen nicht aus...)

Warum mache ich das dann seit fünf Jahren?
Ich finde, dass es gut tut, in einer Welt, in der man ununterbrochen und sofort alles haben kann, was man will, hin und wieder bewußt auf Dinge zu verzichten. Die "Opfer", die wir in der westlichen Welt bringen können, sind natürlich nicht zu vergleichen mit dem, worauf Millarden Menschen auf der Welt täglich unfreiwillig verzichten müssen, aber es macht Sinn, sich für den bewussten Verzicht etwas auszusuchen, was man gerne und regelmäßig konsumiert.
Gerade beim Alkohol ist das eine umso größere Herausforderung, weil ein starker gesellschaftlicher Druck dahinterliegt, der uns oft selbst gar nicht so bewußt ist - gerade in Österreich. "Geh, nur EIN Glasl", "Aber heut ist doch ein besonderer Anlaß", "Das hättest dir jetzt aber verdient" sind nur ein paar der Kommentare, die ich zu hören bekomme. Es ist manchmal erstaunlich schwierig, zu erklären warum man trotz Abwesenheit von Schwangerschaft/Antibiotika/Auto nichts trinkt... Gleichzeitig kann man interessante Sozialstudien betreiben; gestern am Heimweg von den Bögen um halb drei hat sich mir die Theorie aufgedrängt, ob man eigentlich nur Alkohol trinkt, um die anderen Alkohol trinkenden Menschen ertragen zu können?
Und schlussendlich muss ich natürlich zugeben: ja, es hat einen Vorteil, an einem Sonntag früh aufwachen zu können, ohne dass das erste Wort, dass sich in den Kopf hämmert, ein "aua" ist ;)

The Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly and the Cabinet of the DPRK notify with bitterest grief to all the party members, servicepersons and people of the DPRK that Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, passed away of a sudden illness at 08: 30 on December 17, Juche 100 (2011) on his way to field guidance.
He dedicated all his life to the inheritance and accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche and energetically worked day and night for the prosperity of the socialist homeland, happiness of people, reunification of the country and global independence. He passed away too suddenly to our profound regret.
His sudden demise at a historic time when an epochal phase is being opened for accomplishing the cause of building a powerful and prosperous socialist state and the Korean revolution is making steady victorious progress despite manifold difficulties and trials is the greatest loss to the WPK and the Korean revolution and the bitterest grief to all the Koreans at home and abroad.
Kim Jong Il, who was born as a son of guerillas on Mt. Paektu, the holy mountain of the revolution, and grew up to be a great revolutionary, wisely led the party, the army and people for a long period, performing undying revolutionary feats on behalf of the country, the people, the times and history.
Kim Jong Il possessed of personality and qualifications as a great man on the highest and perfect level was an outstanding thinker and theoretician who led the revolution and construction along the path of steady victories with his profound ideologies and theories and remarkable leadership. He was also peerlessly political elder and outstanding and illustrious commander of Songun and peerless patriot and tender-hearted father of the people who recorded the whole history of the revolutionary struggle with ardent love for the country and its people and noble dedication.
Considering it as his lifelong mission to carry to completion generation after generation the revolutionary cause of Juche started by President Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il pushed forward the revolution and construction in line with the idea and intention of the President as the dearest comrade and the most loyal comrade-in-arms of the President.

Kim Jong Il, supreme incarnation of the revolutionary moral obligation, set a great example in perpetuating the memory of President Kim Il Sung unknown in human political history, thus making sure that the august name of the President, his undying revolutionary career and exploits always shine along with the eternal history of Juche Korea.

He passed away to our regret before seeing the victory of the cause of building a thriving nation, the national reunification and the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche so ardently desired by him, but laid a strong political and military base for ensuring the steady advance of the Korean revolution through generations and provided a solid foundation for the eternal prosperity of the country and the nation.
Standing in the van of the Korean revolution at present is Kim Jong Un, great successor to the revolutionary cause of Juche and outstanding leader of our party, army and people.
Kim Jong Un's leadership provides a sure guarantee for creditably carrying to completion the revolutionary cause of Juche through generations, the cause started by Kim Il Sung and led by Kim Jong Il to victory.
We have the invincible revolutionary army of Mt. The heart of Kim Jong Il stopped beating, but his noble and august name and benevolent image will always be remembered by our army and people and his glorious history of revolutionary activities and undying feats will remain shining in the history of the country forever.
