Pyongyang, December 19 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly and the Cabinet of the DPRK on Saturday announced the following notice to all party members, servicepersons and people:
The Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly and the Cabinet of the DPRK notify with bitterest grief to all the party members, servicepersons and people of the DPRK that Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, passed away of a sudden illness at 08: 30 on December 17, Juche 100 (2011) on his way to field guidance.
He dedicated all his life to the inheritance and accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche and energetically worked day and night for the prosperity of the socialist homeland, happiness of people, reunification of the country and global independence. He passed away too suddenly to our profound regret.
His sudden demise at a historic time when an epochal phase is being opened for accomplishing the cause of building a powerful and prosperous socialist state and the Korean revolution is making steady victorious progress despite manifold difficulties and trials is the greatest loss to the WPK and the Korean revolution and the bitterest grief to all the Koreans at home and abroad.
Kim Jong Il, who was born as a son of guerillas on Mt. Paektu, the holy mountain of the revolution, and grew up to be a great revolutionary, wisely led the party, the army and people for a long period, performing undying revolutionary feats on behalf of the country, the people, the times and history.
Kim Jong Il possessed of personality and qualifications as a great man on the highest and perfect level was an outstanding thinker and theoretician who led the revolution and construction along the path of steady victories with his profound ideologies and theories and remarkable leadership. He was also peerlessly political elder and outstanding and illustrious commander of Songun and peerless patriot and tender-hearted father of the people who recorded the whole history of the revolutionary struggle with ardent love for the country and its people and noble dedication.
Considering it as his lifelong mission to carry to completion generation after generation the revolutionary cause of Juche started by President Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il pushed forward the revolution and construction in line with the idea and intention of the President as the dearest comrade and the most loyal comrade-in-arms of the President.
Kim Jong Il comprehensively developed in depth the immortal Juche idea, Songun idea, fathered by the President and glorified it as the idea guiding the era of independence with his clairvoyant wisdom and energetic ideological and theoretical activities. He firmly defended and carried forward the revolutionary traditions of Mt. Paektu with pure mind, thereby giving a steady continuity to the Korean revolution.
Kim Jong Il, genius of the revolution and construction, developed the party, army and state to be the party, army and state of Kim Il Sung, put the dignity and power of the nation on the highest level and ushered in the golden days of prosperity unprecedented in the nation's history spanning 5 000 years under the uplifted banner of modeling the whole society on the Juche idea.
Kim Jong Il, supreme incarnation of the revolutionary moral obligation, set a great example in perpetuating the memory of President Kim Il Sung unknown in human political history, thus making sure that the august name of the President, his undying revolutionary career and exploits always shine along with the eternal history of Juche Korea.
Kim Jong Il, great master of politics and illustrious commander born of Heaven, honorably defended the socialist gains, noble heritage bequeathed by the President, by dint of Songun politics despite the collapse of the world socialist system, the demise of the President which was the greatest loss to the nation, the vicious offensive of the imperialist allied forces to stifle the DPRK and severe natural disasters. As a great guardian of socialism and justice, he conducted energetic external activities for the victory of the socialist cause, global peace and stability and friendship and solidarity among peoples under the uplifted banner of independence against imperialism, thus remarkably raising the international position and prestige of the DPRK and making immortal contributions to the human cause of independence.
In the whole period of his protracted revolutionary guidance, he valued and loved the people very much and always shared weal and woe with them. He passed away to our regret before seeing the victory of the cause of building a thriving nation, the national reunification and the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche so ardently desired by him, but laid a strong political and military base for ensuring the steady advance of the Korean revolution through generations and provided a solid foundation for the eternal prosperity of the country and the nation.
Standing in the van of the Korean revolution at present is Kim Jong Un, great successor to the revolutionary cause of Juche and outstanding leader of our party, army and people.
Kim Jong Un's leadership provides a sure guarantee for creditably carrying to completion the revolutionary cause of Juche through generations, the cause started by Kim Il Sung and led by Kim Jong Il to victory.
We have the invincible revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu faithful to the cause of the Workers' Party of Korea, the great unity of the army and people closely rallied around the Party, the best Korean-style socialist system centered on the popular masses and the solid foundation of the independent national economy.
Under the leadership of Kim Jong Un we should turn our sorrow into strength and courage and overcome the present difficulties and work harder for fresh great victory of the Juche revolution.
Our army and people will hold leader Kim Jong Il in high esteem forever with unshakable faith and noble sense of moral obligation. Das ist keine Konzerthalle!

Man mag von der gestrigen Performance von His Bobness enttäuscht oder begeistert sein. Wäre es mir - wie so vielen anderen - ein Anliegen gewesen, das Konzert vorzeitig zu verlassen, dann allerdings nicht wegen des unverständlichen Gekrächzes des Herrn Zimmermann, sondern aufgrund der unerträglichen Akustik in der Olympiaworld.

Es dürfte vermutlich eine einzige Stelle in dieser Halle geben, wo der reine Bühnensound ankommt, nämlich beim Tontechniker. Alle anderen fühlen sich in nahezu psychedelische Klangwelten versetzt. Zeitweise hatte man wirklich das Gefühl, dass hinten auf der VIP-Tribüne ein zusätzliches Drum-Set das Bühnengeschehen mit 2/10 Sekunden Verspätung begleitet. Auch die Singstimme wird je nach Frequenz - und die von Bob Dylan scheint grad passend zu sein - aus allen Ecken der Halle zurückgeworfen.

Für ein Konzert, bei dem die BesucherInnen zwischen 70 und 100 Euro Eintritt bezahlen, ist diese Akustik und Tontechnik jedenfalls unter jeder Sau. Die Olympiaworld in dieser Form mag für den Musikantenstadl genügen - als Veranstaltungsort für hochwertige Konzerte ist sie gänzlich ungeeignet.

Was vorgelegt

Personalentscheidungen sind immer große Taktiererei vor einer Wahl, und die meisten Parteien lassen sich damit so lange Zeit, wie es irgend geht. Die Innsbrucker Grünen haben es diesmal anders gemacht. Obwohl die Gemeinderatswahl erst irgendwann im Frühjahr stattfinden wird, ist die Liste bereits gestern auf der Wahlversammlung gewählt worden. Und das ist auch gut so: denn neben langgedienten GemeinderätInnen sind viele neue und vor allem junge Menschen auf der Liste vertreten! Die haben jetzt genug Zeit, sich einzuarbeiten und Kraft zu tanken für einen spannenden Wahlkampf. Ganz besonders freue ich mich über den achten Platz für Kathi Heis, die als jüngste Kandidatin unter den ersten zehn so richtig Vollgas geben wird!
(Das Durchschnittsalter der 18 KandidatInnen ist übrigens 36,2. Auch das soll uns erst einmal wer nachmachen.)

Democratic People's Republic of Mystery

„Ist es möglich, in der Früh irgendwo joggen zu gehen?“ ist eine der ersten Fragen, die wir nach dem Check-In in unserem Hotel in Pyongyang unseren Guides stellen. „Ja sicher“, so die ernsthafte Antwort, „das Stiegenhaus hinauf und hinunter!“

Es ist also tatsächlich wahr. Eine Reise nach Nordkorea bedeutet, sich die gesamte Reisedauer (in unserem Fall zwei Wochen) nur als Gruppe zu bewegen. Es ist nicht möglich, das Hotel zu verlassen (das sei zu gefährlich, und aufgrund der Sprachbarriere könnten wir eventuell nicht mehr zurückfinden), es ist nicht möglich, ein Taxi zu nehmen oder mit der Straßenbahn zu fahren, es ist nicht möglich, einfach ins Kino zu gehen oder ein Restaurant selbst auszusuchen. Für die Dauer der Reise wird man von so gut wie allen individuellen Entscheidungen entbunden. Es ist erstaunlich, wie schnell man sich daran gewöhnt.

Ein seltsames Gefühl zwischen Beklemmung und Schicksalsergebenheit beschleicht einen durch diese Reisesituation, und dieses Gefühl beschreibt auch viele der Erfahrungen auf der Reise. Das Programm ist im Wesentlichen jenes, das alle TouristInnen in Nordkorea geboten bekommen: das Kim Il-Sung Mausoleum im Kumsusan-Palast (das wohl einen eigenen Artikel wert wäre), das Museum und die Gedenkstätte zum „Siegreichen Vaterländischen Befreiungskrieg“, das Monument in Erinnerung an die Parteigründung, der Turm der Juche-Idee, die Internationale Freundschaftsausstellung mit zehntausenden Geschenken an Kim Vater und Sohn, die Demarkationslinie bei Panmunjom, oder das US-„Spionageschiff“ „Pueblo“. Abgerundet wird es durch den Besuch mehrerer Schulen, Farmen, eines Krankenhauses und zweier Universitäten (immerhin sind wir ja eine Exkursionsgruppe der Uni Innsbruck), sowie der Arirang Mass Games, die alljährlich im August im angeblich größten Stadion der welt, dem 1.-Mai-Stadion stattfinden und ein unglaubliches Spektakel mit 100.000 TeilnehmerInnen darstellen.

Selbst wenn man alle diese Sehenswürdigkeiten nur als monumentale Bauwerke betrachtete, hätte man schon Schwierigkeiten, sie zu verstehen. Richtig verwirrend werden sie durch die Erklärungen, die es dazu gibt. Das „politische System“ der DVRK ist durch zwei wesentliche Aspekte geprägt: zum einen durch einen gottgleichen Personenkult um den Präsidenten oder Großen Führer Kim Il-Sung, und seinen Sohn, den Geliebten Führer, der in einer Hütte am Mount Paektu geboren worden sein soll, die unweigerlich an den Stall von Bethlehem erinnert. Kim Il-Sung ist der ewige Präsident und trägt diesen Titel über seinen Tod hinaus (und ist damit das längstdienende Staatsoberhaupt der Welt), während Kim Jong-Il als sein Nachfolger seine Politik und die Juche-Idee weiterführen soll. Juche, der zweite prägende Aspekt, ist laut Verfassung die Weltanschauung der DVRK. Allerdings ist Juche mehr als eine Ideologie –es ist eine Religion, die in alle Lebensbereiche eingreift, bis hin zur eigenen Zeitrechnung, die mit dem Geburtsjahr Kim Il-Sungs beginnt und nach der wir uns nun im Jahr Juche 100 befinden.

Erst wenn man den Staat eher als eine „Religionsgemeinschaft“ zu begreifen versucht anstatt als ein politisches System, kann man beginnen zu akzeptieren, dass eben andere Gesetze, andere Konventionen und auch eine andere Geschichtsschreibung gelten. Mehr als ein halbes Jahrhundert der Abschottung, der ideologischen Erziehung und Strukturierung aller Lebensbereiche machen etwas mit einem Land und seinen Menschen, das für uns kaum nachvollziehbar ist. Und dennoch machen all diese Geschichten in sich irgendwie Sinn. Wenn wir mit offenstehendem Mund nach der spektakulären Arirang-Massengymnastik wieder in den Bus klettern und unsere Führerin uns erklärt, dass das koreanische Volk „single-hearted and one-minded“ ist, dann glauben wir ihr aufs Wort, dass das kein Stehsatz für TouristInnen ist, sondern die dort geltende Wahrheit.



Aber was ist wirklich die Wahrheit? Das Quälende an der Reise ist wohl dieses Unwissen. Noch interessanter als die Dinge, die wir sehen, sind nämlich die Dinge, die wir nicht sehen. Wie groß ist jetzt das Ausmaß der Hungersnot, oder gibt es die überhaupt? Wieviele Menschen sind tatsächlich in den so genannten „Umerziehungslagern“? Was ist Zwang, was ist „Freiwilligkeit“, und gibt es diese Grenze überhaupt? Was machen KoreanerInnen in ihrer Freizeit? Gibt es überhaupt Freizeit? Wie schauen die Straßen aus, durch die wir nicht mit unserem Touristenbus fahren? Wie schauen die Häuser von hinten aus? Sind die Häuser überhaupt echt?

Man wird ein bisschen paranoid in diesem Land. Fragt man unsere Guides, so haben sie auf (fast) alles eine Antwort – meist eine andere, als sie in der Literatur oder im Reiseführer steht. Aber wieso sollte das stimmen? Beim Lesen des Lonely Planet merkt man, dass der Autor auch nicht viel mehr Zeit im Land verbracht haben kann als wir. Publikationen sind voll von Konjunktiven und Anführungszeichen – wie auch dieser Blogbeitrag. Zurück bleibt der Zweifel – und das Gefühl, auf einem anderen Planeten gewesen zu sein, weil es so ein Land in unserer Vorstellungswelt eigentlich nicht mehr geben kann. Von daher ist das Land auf jeden Fall das, was es stolz zu sein proklamiert: einzigartig.

Schönwettergarantie

Bereits zum sechsten Mal haben wir heuer das Grüne Integrationsfußballturnier veranstaltet. Und eines ist über die Jahre immer gleich geblieben: das Wetter. "Wenn ich einmal heirat, dann sicher an dem Tag, wo das Fußballturnier ist", wurde schon im Vorfeld verkündet. (Ich selber war praktischerweise an jenem Tag auf einer - heißen - Hochzeit eingeladen...) Und Sonne und Hitze führen zwar zu hochroten Köpfen, aber dafür zu wunderschönen Photos - danke Sebi!

Vielleicht liegt es daran, wie wir unsere Reiseroute angelegt haben, dass wir Jerusalem jetzt besonders schraeg finden. In Tel Aviv kommt einem hin und wieder ein Kippatraeger oder eine verschleierte Frau entgegen, aber grundsaetzlich ist es eine westliche Partymetropole mit den saubersten Stadtstraenden der Welt.
In der Negev-Wueste vergisst man ausser bei den gelegentlichen Kibbutzim in the middle of nowhere sowieso, wo man eigentlich ist - zu atemberaubend ist die Kulisse am groessten Erdeinbruch der Welt. Und Eilat koennte genauso auf Mallorca oder an der Costa del Sol liegen.

Wenn man dann die Strasse durchs Westjordanland nach Jerusalem faehrt, wird alles gleich ganz anders. Hier staubige palaestinensische Staedte wie Jericho, die von israelischen Checkpoints umgeben sind; dort riesige israelische Siedlungen, die in rasender Geschwindigkeit aus dem Boden gestampft worden sind. Und dann Jerusalem selbst: Unsere Ankunft fiel mit Shavuat, dem Fest, mit dem man den Empfang der Torah durch Moses begeht, zusammen. Das heisst: Shabbath hoch zehn, die Strassen in Mea'sharim sind gesperrt, alles ist zu (auch die Jugendherberge) und Stroeme von orthodoxen Juden begeben sich zur Klagemauer.

Aber der religioese Overkill ist allgegenwaertig: Souvenirgeschaefte, egal in welchem Viertel der Altstadt, tuermen sich mit Kippas, Menorahs, Heiligenbildchen, Masbahas und Palestinensertuechern, der Geschaeftemacherei wird hier der Vorzug gegeben. Der Muezzin mischt sich ununterbrochen mit den Kirchenglocken, und am Freitagnachmittag, waehrend die Muslime zum Freitagsgebet eilen und sich die Juden auf Shabbath vorbereiten, bricht eine 200koepfige Prozession auf, um, das Ave Maria in vier Sprachen rezitierend, den Leidensweg Christi nachzugehen. Ich habe es nur bis zur neunten Station ausgehalten.

Ich bin wirklich fasziniert. Kann ein Land gegensaetzlicher sein? Und trotzdem bin ich froh, jetzt auf der Dachterrasse ein Goldstar geniessen und dem kollektiven Wahnsinn fuer ein paar Stunden entfliehen zu koennen...

Das sind nicht unsere Gesetze!

Da geifern sie, die PosterInnen auf krone.at und tt.com. Das könne doch nicht sein, dass irgendwelche links-linken Wahnsinnigen die Staatsgewalt an der Exekution der Gesetze hindern. Es werde schon einen Grund haben, dass Lamin J. hier nicht bleiben könne, in Gambia sei es eh nicht so schlimm, und überhaupt: da könne ja jeder kommen.

Ich sage: Doch, es muss sein, dass die Zivilgesellschaft eingreift, wenn der Staat solche irrationalen und menschenverachtenden Gesetze macht. Wenn diese Gesetze heißen, dass ein 20jähriger Bursch, der auf dem vorgeschriebenen Niveau Deutsch spricht, eine Arbeitszusage hat und für den Tirol die Heimat ist, eine solche Gefahr für unsere Gesellschaft ist, dass er abgeschoben werden muss, dann sind diese Gesetze falsch. Dann haben sie nichts mit der Realität zu tun und schon gar nichts mit der Verantwortung, die Österreich als achtreichstes Land der Erde endlich wahrzunehmen beginnen muss.

Und deswegen werden wir heute wieder mit Lamin J. auf die Polizeistation in Hall gehen, und morgen, und übermorgen, so lange es halt notwendig ist. Ganz einfach.
